COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Embracing the region’s colorful traditions and culture, Inussuk is a vibrant part of the daily life of Greenlanders and is dedicated to the communities in which it serves. Through various programs and initiatives, Inussuk seeks to deepen cultural links and promote the exchange of ideas between the company and community. We are in it for the long haul and see our partnership with our community as a core tenet of our work moving forward.

OVERVIEW

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Greenlandic Heritage Week – Every year in the spring, hunters and their families arrive at the base from Qaanaaq and surrounding settlements. For one week, they engage with the base populace in trading, dog sledding races, games, and general cultural exchange.

Working group for Naalakkersuisut - We are proud to participate in political working groups for the Greenlandic government. Currently, our Apprentice Supervisor Margrethe Poulsen is participating in a working group exploring  recommendations for a school designed for students who fall outside of the education system after graduating from mandatory school.

Member of the Greenlandic Business Council and CSR Greenland - We are a member of both the Greenlandic Business Council and CSR Greenland. We take company social responsibility seriously and consider ourselves an active part of the Greenlandic business community.

Cooperation with the citizens' council in Pituffik - We respect the work of the elected citizens' council in Pituffik. Our IT and television system is used, among other methods, to publicize the candidates who have been elected to the council. We are also in contact with the citizens' council regarding planning for larger events such as Greenland’s National Day.

Operation Julemand - We support the USSF initiative, Operation Julemand, which brings gifts to children in Qaanaaq during Christmas.

Visits from Hunters - We support visits from hunters who come from Qaanaaq and surrounding settlements in collaboration with the USSF. During the hunt, the hunters live in a cabin in Dundas, but facilities on the base are at their disposal.

GREENLANDIC HERITAGE WEEK

For the last 50 years, Greenlandic Heritage Week honors the proud traditions of the region by bringing together Pituffik’s personnel, families, and residents of local villages to celebrate the varied cultural traditions of the region. From arts and crafts to dog sled races and tours, this joyous and colorful festival helps forge the bonds between the community and base.
